About Australia’s General Skilled Migration

Australia’s General Skilled Migration Scheme (GSM) invites brilliant and skilled individuals from outside to apply for a temporary or permanent skilled visa there. It is a point-based immigration programme. Three well-liked and point-tested visa types under the GSM are:

  • Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189
  • Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 491

The first two on the above list are permanent visas, while the third one (Subclass 491) is a temporary visa issued by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for a period of five years. If you wish to apply for any of the aforementioned visa categories, you must first make sure that you have a strong point score (at least 65 out of 100) based on some important aspects of your profile. Age, education, proficiency in the English language, employment history, and other criteria are among them.

For each type of visa, Australia also maintains a Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Therefore, before applying, you should additionally verify that your profession is included in the applicable SOL. You should also confirm that you comply with the eligibility point requirements. You can then enter your Expression of Interest (EOI) via the SkillSelect system online. The Department of Home Affairs in Australia will send you an ITA (Invitation to Apply) for a visa if your profile is chosen.

Online Application Steps for Australia Immigration

We are going to discuss the steps that you will need to follow in the Australia ECI Process. Make sure to not miss out on any point as it might affect your ECI process in the future. Let’s begin!

1. Make an online profile

Open a personal online account at the Australian Department of Home Affairs’ official website as soon as possible if you wish to apply for an Australian visa (ImmiAccount). Simply enter your personal information, choose a password, and confirm your account via email to open the account without charge.  You can manage your application online, attach your supporting materials, and monitor the visa application review procedure.  Additionally, if the applicant is one of the following, an organisational account can be created:

  • A registered migration expert

  • Verified from a company.

  • From a sponsoring business.

2. Select the Visa Type

There are various sorts of Australian visas available. These will largely depend on the purpose of your trip; you can apply for a visa for tourism, study, employment, etc.

3. Submit the Australian Visa Form

There is a different application form for each type of visa. After choosing your visa type, you can continue filling out the form. You must fill out a form with personal information (name, birthdate, marital status, etc.), the reason you wish to travel to Australia, the length of your stay, and other information. If you are applying jointly with family or friends, each applicant must submit a separate application.

4. Attach the Required Documents

You can attach documents to the online application in the following ways:

  1. Click the “attach a document” option.
  2. Specify to whom you are attaching the file.
  3. Explain why you are including this document.
  4. Select on the document type.
  5. Specify the file’s name.
  6. Select attach.

You only need to choose the option to “link a passport photo” when you wish to upload photos because there is a separate section for it.

Depending on the type of visa you are applying for, different documents are needed, but in general, you will need a passport, identification photos, travel insurance, financial documents, etc. Ensure that the papers you use are coloured scans.

5. Pay the Application Fee

Depending on the visa, there are different visa fees for Australia. However, in order for your application to be processed, you must pay the application cost before submitting it. You can choose how you want to pay the cost while submitting the online application. You have the option of paying with a debit card, credit card, or PayPal.

6. Submit the Application

Following the completion of these steps, you can submit your application. If something has changed, you can go back and get in touch with the Australian authorities using the ImmiAccount. You can use the account to inform the Department of Foreign Affairs, for instance, if your address has changed. While processing times vary because each application is unique, you may watch the progress of your visa application through your account. If no problems arise, you might get your visa in as little as a few days.
