The Canadian government uses a 67 points calculator system to assess skilled candidates for the Federal Skilled Worker Program . These points are calculated on the basis of certain factors like Age, Education, Work Experience, English Language skills , Spouse english skills , Canadian connection etc.
Candidates must score 67 out of 100 points to submit an application under the FSW program .
What are the minimum requirements for Canada ECI Visa?
We have discussed the eligibility criteria for the FSWP a candidate must meet to apply for Canada ECI Visa through the express entry program:
- Work Experience: The candidate needs to have a minimum of 1 year of continuous work experience in an occupation that is categorized under National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A, or B.
- Language Proficiency: Minimum 6 per band in the IELTS examination. These bands include – Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening.
- Educational Qualification: Minimum requirement is to have a high school diploma or its equivalent (for proving equivalency to the Canadian education system applicant needs an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)).
- Age: Minimum age required is of 18 years. Applying within the age group of 18 to 35 years will award the maximum points.
- Candidates need to demonstrate they have enough funds to support themselves financially for moving to Canada.
67 points Canada Calculator System
Canada has a majority of the population that speaks English. It’s very important to be proficient in English to easily adapt to daily life in the country. Now, points are assigned to candidates based on the factors – Speaking, Reading, Listening, and Writing.
A candidate is required to take an approved language test to prove their language proficiency. Canada uses the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels to map scores from other approved language tests like CELPIP, TEF.
The candidate needs to score a minimum CLB level of 7 for the first official language and a minimum CLB level of 5 for the second official language.

Applicants must score 67 under six selection factors given by the Canadian government to apply for Canada ECI visa . Six selection factors are:
- Age
- Education
- Work Experience
- Language Skills
- Arranged Employment in Canada
- Adaptability
In case applicant is not able to meet 67 points , then they can do below mentioned things to improve their ECI Visa points like:
- Improve English Language Skills
- Complete another degree, diploma, or certificate
- Get a job offer from Canada

Education (Maximum 25 points)
If the candidate went to school in Canada, they must have a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian high school or post-secondary school. For candidates with foreign education, they must have an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) that is to prove that the foreign education is equal to the Canadian certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian high school or post-secondary school.
Candidates have to include their Canadian credential or their foreign credential and ECA certificate when applying.

Work Experience (Maximum 15 points)
Canada uses a system that categorizes all the professions in the labour market under one system known as Training, Education, Experience Responsibilities (TEER).
Candidates are awarded points for the years they have spent doing full-time paid work under TEER Skill level 0, 1, 2, 3. For to be able to get points for work experience it must be gained while:
- In Canada or abroad;
- While studying;
- While being self-employed;
The system assigns a 5 digit code to each profession. It illustrates all the details related to the occupation like duties, skills, talents, and work settings for different jobs. Candidates must identify their correct NOC code and submit it with their Express entry profile.

Arranged Employment (Maximum 10 points)
The candidate must have a valid job offer to get points for arranged employment. A job offer will only be counted as valid if:
- It is continuous, paid, full-time work (minimum of 30 hours/week);
- It is for an occupation that is categorized under NOC skill level 0, A, or B.
The Canadian government must be convinced of:
- That the candidate will be able to do the job offered;
- That the candidate must be able to become licensed or certified when in Canada.
We have discussed 4 scenarios where a candidate can get points for arranged employment:
Situation 1:
Currently working in Canada with a work permit and must meet all of the below-mentioned requirements:
- The work permit is valid when applying and issuing a permanent resident visa (or when the candidate is allowed to work in Canada without a work permit at the time visa is issued).
- Canada issues the work permit based on a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) by Employment and Social Development Canada, in a NOC level O occupation or A or B skill level.
- Work for an employer named on the work permit.
- This employer has made a valid job offer based on the acceptance as a skilled worker.
Situation 2:
Currently working in Canada in a job that is exempted from the LMIA requirement for one of the following reasons:
- an international agreement (such as the North American Free Trade Agreement) or
- a significant benefit to Canadian interests or
- a federal-provincial agreement
Must also meet all of the following conditions:
- The work permit is valid both when applied for and when issued a permanent resident visa (or if allowed to work in Canada without a permit when the permanent resident visa is issued).
- The current employer has made a valid job offer based on acceptance as a skilled worker.
- Currently working for the employer mentioned on the work permit.
- Have been working for this employer for at least 1 year without interruption, full-time or equivalent.
Situation 3:
Must meet all of the below-mentioned requirements:
- Currently do not have a work permit or do not intend to work in Canada before obtaining a permanent resident visa.
- An employer has an LMIA.
- This employer has made a valid job offer based on this LMIA and acceptance as a Skilled Worker.
Situation 4:
Must meet all of the below-mentioned requirements:
- A valid work permit or are allowed to work in Canada without a work permit.
- Currently working in Canada in a job that is exempt from an LMIA, but it is not governed by an international federal-provincial agreement or a significant benefit to Canadian interests.
- An employer other than the one currently working for:
- has an LMIA;
- Got a valid job offer based on this LMIA and acceptance as a Skilled Worker;
Adaptability (Maximum 10 points)
If the candidate is moving to Canada with their spouse or common-law partner, they can get extra ECI Visa points.
